Extend Your Ki to Get a New Job

If you have studied or read about martial arts, you are most likely aware of the basic principle that most of the Asian martial arts teach is that each individual possesses an inner strength that can be used and projected to enhance that individual’s prowess and abilities.

In Japanese martial arts, this energy is known as Ki. In Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese dance-like martial art, the energy is referred to as Chi. In Qi Gong, another ancient Chinese martial art, this energy is referred to as Qi. Ancient Ninja referred to it as Hara. Luke Skywalker from Star Wars knew it as ‘the Force.’

What is Ki?

Have you ever read a story in the paper of how a 140 pound woman moved a 2000 pound car to save an individual trapped under the car? Have you ever watched on TV when in martial arts demonstrations the little, tiny 80 year old man breaks an incredible number of cinder blocks with just his fingers or with his head? Have you ever watched those gruesome shows where people pierce their backs with huge stainless steel posts and then are suspended hundreds of feet in the air by those posts?

These are all examples of where ordinary (and sometimes not so ordinary) individuals have tapped an inner well of strength and energy and focused and controlled it so tightly that they were able to perform acts that are considered impossible or unbearable.

Another example I can offer is from a friend of mine who uses Ki to calm his child when he has a full blown tantrum. The way he explained it (which helped me to understand the concept better) is that he focuses every inch of his being, his love, his strength, his empathy and his passion on his son as he tries to calm him. My friend pictures an envelope of these feelings emanating from him and encapsulating the baby until the baby is overwhelmed with these feelings and succumbs to his father’s ministrations.

One other important aspect of focusing your Ki, my friend explained, is that you have to completely empty your mind of any extraneous thoughts or worries and concentrate solely on the feelings you want to portray. He pictures in his mind an unbearably bright center of energy in the biological center of his body (just below the tummy in the middle of your body). When he wants to use his Ki, he concentrates and imagines this bright center expanding to envelope the object of his Ki and he focuses everything he has on that instant of communication. Again, this is a somewhat nebulous thought but it should suffice in this situation.

How can Ki help me get a job?

Once you feel like you have a minimal grasp of Ki, start employing it in your efforts to obtain a job. When you receive a phone call from a prospective employer clear your mind, calm yourself and extend your center of energy to envelop the caller. What you hope to achieve in this initial conversation is that the caller believes emphatically that they should call you in for an interview.

When you do get an interview, clear your mind and remain calm. Then picture in your mind your center of energy expanding out and enveloping the interviewer. Concentrate fully on them and do not let anything distract you. Finally, put all of your passion into what you say, what you do and how you act during the interview.

It may not work right away and it may take years before it makes a dramatic difference in your interactions but once you start using your Ki, it will respond the same way a muscle does. The more you exercise and use it, the stronger it will grow.

In essence, raise your emotional level to unprecedented heights and put all of your passion into your demeanor, your responses and your questions when in an interview. Focus these heightened feelings on the interviewer and hopefully they will pick up on how passionate you are about the job.

Mumbo Jumbo

Now this may all sound like a bunch of mystical mumbo jumbo but there are millions of people in the world today who swear by Ki and use it in their everyday lives. I recommend that you get a book from the library about Ki: not one with lots of pictures on how to learn martial arts. Instead, pick out a book that is about the philosophy of Ki, read it through and try to understand it. Then, start utilizing what you have learned and you will see amazing results. You just need a little understanding of the concept, a little faith in yourself and a passion to achieve something and you will start down a rewarding road that might change your life (and help you get a job).
